Bring your board and join us for the Grand Opening of the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark on Sunday, June 1 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The entire family will enjoy the skating, artwork, live music and more during the first of what will be many events at the new downtown skatepark. The event is free and open to the public.

Come celebrate the acquisition of the entire 20.2-acre West 11th Street Park! Thursday, February 21, 10:30 a.m. Join Senator John Whitmire, Mayor Bill White, Council Member Toni Lawrence, Houston Independent School District, Houston Parks and Recreation Department, West 11th Street Park Community, and the Houston Parks Board to officially celebrate the most creative acquisition strategy in the history of Houston parkland, and to thank all of the donors and strategic partners who helped permanently secure this extraordinary park for Houston.

Earlier this year, the Houston Parks Board executed the final agreement to acquire this long-awaited park along scenic Sims Bayou. Covered with vegetation representative of the forest that once lined the banks of the Bayou, the newly acquired property will become one of seven parks along the bayou connected by a planned 14-mile hike & bike trail.
The park is also located across the bayou from Sims Woods Conservation area.
The City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department will develop the property as a nature park, complete with a canoe launch, thanks to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Outdoor Recreation Grant.

In keeping with our focus to create connected greenbelts along our bayous, the Houston Parks Board, in partnership with Harris County Flood Control District and the City of Houston, has completed the acquisition of several acres of new parkland along Brays Bayou for the first phase of the Brays Bayou Greenway Project.
This newly created greenbelt links the Ship Channel to Gus Wortham Park. The second phase of the Brays Bayou Greenway Project is now underway, and will complete the greenway expansion to MacGregor Park.
